The Great Gobidas Gobi (Desi-style Califlower)

Gobi was always a family nickname growing up, and I was quite surprised to discover that desi cauliflower goes by the same name too. And who doesn’t like the perfume of curry and onions creeping down the halls, tantalizing the taste buds of passersby.

-1 head white or purple cauliflower, broken into small florets

-1 package frozen peas

– 1 white onion, sliced thin

-1 cup shredded carrots

-2 table spoons coconut oil

-3 tablespoons curry

-2 green chiles

– 2 inch piece of fresh ginger, minced

-1 cinnamon stick

-2 tablespoons garam masala

-1/2 cup light coconut milk

-1 cup water

-cilantro garnish

place coconut oil in a wok or deep pan with  onion, ginger and all spices. cook over medium heat until golden brown. Add cauliflower florets, carrots, coconut milk, and water cover and continue to cook ffor about 15 minutes on medium heat, or until the florets have softened. Add the peas last (to preserve color) and serve alone or over basmati rice with a garnish of cilantro.  If you wish to have a saucier dish, double the water and coconut milk.
